تاریخ فلسفه

میشل فوکو فیلسوف و تاریخ‌نگار ایده‌ها در فرانسه بود که تأثیر عمیقی بر نظریه‌های اجتماعی و مطالعات فرهنگی گذاشت.
او در یک خانواده‌ی طبقه‌ی متوسط بالا به دنیا آمد و در مؤسسات معتبر تحصیل کرد و به فلسفه علاقه‌مند شد.
آثار فوکو بر روابط میان قدرت، دانش و کنترل اجتماعی متمرکز بود.
او چندین کتاب تأثیرگذار منتشر کرد، از جمله تاریخ جنون و نظم اشیا، و رویکرد "باستان‌شناسی" خود را به تاریخ توسعه داد.
فوکو به فعالیت‌های سیاسی در راستای اهداف چپ‌گرا پرداخت و بعدها روش‌های ژنئالوژیکی را توسعه داد که بر نقش قدرت در جامعه تأکید می‌کرد.
او در سال 1984 به دلیل عوارض ناشی از ایدز درگذشت و تأثیر ماندگاری بر حوزه‌های مختلف علمی گذاشت.
