اسطوره‌شناسی دین

جوزف کمبل اسطوره‌شناس، نویسنده و سخنران آمریکایی بود که در سال 1904 به دنیا آمد.
او از سنین جوانی به اسطوره‌شناسی علاقه‌مند شد و در دانشگاه کلمبیا و اروپا به تحصیل پرداخت.
آثار کمبل بر اسطوره‌شناسی تطبیقی متمرکز بود و الگوهای جهانی در اسطوره‌ها را در فرهنگ‌های مختلف بررسی می‌کرد.
او در کالج سارا لارنس تدریس کرد و کتاب‌های تأثیرگذار بسیاری از جمله "قهرمان با هزار چهره" را نوشت.
ایده‌های کمبل از طریق همکاری‌اش با جورج لوکاس در "جنگ ستارگان" و مصاحبه‌های تلویزیونی‌اش با بیل مویرز به شهرت گسترده‌ای دست یافت.
آثار او بر اهمیت روان‌شناختی و معنوی اسطوره‌ها در زندگی انسان تأکید داشت و مردم را تشویق می‌کرد تا "به دنبال شادی خود بروند." میراث کمبل همچنان بر ادبیات، فیلم و فرهنگ عامه تأثیر می‌گذارد، حتی پس از مرگش در سال 1987.
