St. Clair Detrick-Jules is a filmmaker, photographer, and author who created "My Beautiful Black Hair" as a response to her younger sister's experiences with racism at school.
The book serves as an open love letter to Black girls and women facing oppression related to their hair texture.
Detrick-Jules interviewed and photographed 101 Black women from around the world, capturing their natural hair journeys and experiences.
Her work aims to empower Black women and girls to embrace their natural hair as a source of joy rather than shame, challenging societal beauty standards and promoting self-acceptance.
